I run down the hall way. I can feel the heat of the dragon's fire at my feet. My silly armour slowing me down. The helmet visor falling down in front of my line of view. My sword threatens to trip me, banging against my leg, as I sprint.
I turn the corner and up the stairs to the tower. An enraged roar echos up the tower. The dragon can't fit through the door! Well, at least the princess is safe.
Finally I reach the tower door. I grab the door handle and twist. And of course, it's locked. "Princess? If your near the door, step back!" I shout through the door.
"What?! What are you going to do?!" Her muffled voice sounds petrified.
"Just stand back!" I say, as I step back. I slam my shoulder into the door. It splinters off it's hinges and clatters to the ground. The princess yelps and falls off her bed.
I cough to cover my laugh. "You okay?" I ask.
She stands up and brushes her hair back, "Yes, and you, my brave knight?" I roll my eyes behind my helmet visor. I get a good look at her. She looks about sixteen, with long blonde hair and a purple tiara on top. Her eyes are blue and they have long lashes that are batting rapidly. She is wearing a long purple dress that is a size too tight. Her feet are hidden by her dress hem.
"Shall we get going?" I ask as the dragon gives another roar.
"You didn't slay the dragon?!" She squeaks.
"No," I say slowly.
"What kind of knight are you?! You were supposed to kill the dragon! Then you were supposed to sweep me off my feet and carry me into the sunset." She says waltzing around the room with her hands under her chin.
"Do you want me to sweep you off your feet?" I ask getting annoyed.
She stops dancing around. "Yes!" She cries stomping her foot, and folding her arms.
"Fine."
"Fine!" She holds out her arms. I roll my eyes again and throw her over my shoulder. She yelps. "What are you doing?!"
"I'm sweeping you off your feet! Isn't that what you want me to do?" I snap as I run down the stairs.
She starts pounding her fists on my armoured back. "Don't let the dragon get me!" She screams. I pull my sword from my belt and skid to a halt in front of the dragon's snout. What do I do now?! I set the princess down on the ground beside a dead knight. She looks at the burnt figure and whimpers. I turn my attention from the princess to the dragon. Gripping my sword tightly, I move towards it slowly.
It's eyes dart from me to the princess then back at me. It groans and moves away from the doorway. I follow. "Don't leave me!" I hear the princess shriek.
"Just stay there," I whisper, "I'll be back soon." Hopefully. As I enter the main hall the dragon sends a flurry of fire in my direction. I duck out of the way and run to wards it's legs. I swing my sword at it's feet but the blade bounces harmlessly off the ebony scales. I roll away, but it's long tail swipes my shoulder, taking off my gardbrace with it. That's not good. The dragon makes a sound as if it's laughing and spins around to met me. I gulp and run back to the princess. "I can't kill it," she opens her mouth to say something, but I hold my hand up and continue, "We're just going to have to run."
She folds her arms, "I don't run."
"Fine. Then I'll carry you."
"Um. No thanks," she rolls her eyes.
I take a slow breath in. Then out. "Would you rather stay here with the dragon?" I ask, "Because I'm more than happy to leave you here, if that's what you choose."
Her eyes widen and she whispers, "No, I'll go with you, but you have to carry me."
I pick her up and slip out the doorway. The dragon's green eyes follow us, but it makes no move to attack. I keep running though. Through the castle. Over the drawbridge. To my horse.
"Hey Orin," I say putting the princess down. I pet his white mane.
"So, now that you have rescued me, don't you want to know my name?" The princess demands putting her hand on her hip.
"I already know your name princess. It's Lilliana of Siniria." I say tightening Orin's bridle.
"Well," she huffs, "Then at least tell me your name."
I pull my helmet off and let my long hair fall down my back, "I am Tora, lady of Lorne."
The princess' mouth drops, "Your...A...Girl?!"
"Yes. What did you expect?"
"I...I...I..." she stutters.
I roll my eyes. "Come on, let's get moving." I help her up onto the saddle, then I pull my self up behind her. I put my helmet back on, grab the reigns, and say "Alright Orin." And just like that we're galloping through the forest.
